The luxury watch industry has a counterfeiting problem. According to the Swiss Customs Administration, over 30 million fake watches enter the market annually. Traditional paper certificates can be forged. Serial number databases can be manipulated. How do you really know your watch is authentic?
Enter Blockchain Authentication
At Open Wrist, we've adopted blockchain technology to solve this problem permanently. Every watch we sell receives an NFT (Non-Fungible Token) Certificate of Authenticity minted on the Polygon blockchain.
How It Works
- Authentication: Your watch undergoes our 12-point verification process. Every detail — serial number, reference, condition, components — is documented.
- Minting: A unique ERC-721 token is created on the Polygon blockchain containing all watch metadata. This token is cryptographically linked to your specific timepiece.
- Ownership: The NFT is transferred to your wallet. It proves you own an authenticated watch from Open Wrist.
- Provenance: Every future ownership transfer, service event, or verification is permanently recorded on-chain. The watch's complete history is transparent and immutable.
Why Polygon?
We chose the Polygon network for three reasons: near-zero transaction costs (fractions of a cent per mint), fast confirmation times (2 seconds), and environmental sustainability (99.9% less energy than proof-of-work chains). Your certificate costs us less than a penny to create, but provides permanent, tamper-proof authentication.
What This Means for You
- Proof of authenticity that can't be forged or lost
- Complete provenance history visible to future buyers
- Higher resale value — blockchain-verified watches command premium prices
- VIP access — COA holders get exclusive pricing and early access to new inventory
